Alt offered suggestion of high altitude, which the I town could justly claim, and the final syllable of the surname of Mr . Heat-on was adopted as the sec~nd syllable of the town name, as a ccrnpliment to him. The scattered people f ran the two sides of the ridge came into the new town and have. here developed a ccmmunity of high grade , with excellent educational , :i,atigi.ous and general civic advantages •. Nearly all WO of t he men and some of the/men of Alton have given mission service for - t e Church of Latter Day Saints, and some thus served in foreign l a nds, so -that they were able to bring the ben,e:t t~·- o~ ::their broader experience to the community of their hane .
