In her life she ha s· witnessed t,he transition of wes tern travel from the heavily built, o:x:-drawn prairie wagon to the fine·ly equipped carriage. After they moved in permanently from Canaan Ranch, the Andrus place was· well known for its :f'ine. stalls of work and dd:fing horses, and they went about in real style in their fine carriage behind e:x:cellent trotters. Mr. Andrus was never happier than when driving a well groomed outfit .• For many years t hey traveled to and from Salt Lake by team, but when the train came as tar sou th as Milford, they traveled by team to that terminus, and went on to Salt Lake by rail. Except for some advantages and associations Mr. Andrus to the end of his life preferred to travel behi nd. his own team. Robert Lund is the first local telegraph operator "'Aunt Nome'' .Andrus renembers. Re had his office in the recently r azed Old Social Hall, when that place. was bought for a s.tore by ttWoolley, Lund and Judd" . She witnessed the hectic days of Silver Reef, the endless and arduous labor of trying to co jtrol the Ria Vir.gin for irrigation purposes, the br inging in of the Cottonwood -v'1ater supply for culinary use, and f eels: her life with all of its hardships and some almost bi t ter experi ences, has for her now, only the greatest of s atisfaction. Her past many years, espe cially since her blindness., have been spent r doing ordinance work 1'or the dead in the St. George Temple. Even at nine~y four she is still able to enjoy this aeti vi ty and she looks f orward with happtness to t he time when she may be permit ted to, m;,:;et with those 1Jor whom she has performed this religious s ervice a ccording to the mode and practice of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latt er day Saints. She bears no ill wi l l toward any living or departed person and is never disturbed by the racket of little children. F'ive of the thirteen children born to her are still living , all close about her. And she now has t wenty-eight living grand children and twenty-four great grand children. |
