Many of the laterals are erroded /ar below grade for long distances and will have to be restored tot their designed grades in order to divert waterw7 ty] from them into service ditches, in other places ditohes w ire filled with deposits of silt and.will not nearly car-r7 their designed maximum head of water, probably the majority of the smaller structures are in a bad state of repair and will have to be replaced at an early date. At this date there are under cultivation about 12,000 acres of Indian land nearly all of which is in the hands of white men. This land is scattered over the entire traot of 105,000 acres and is therefore very difficjilt to serve with watar. -vith the present organization it i3 necessary to neglect certain detached areas for a period while attention ia being given to more important tracts.
