I have the honor to forward herewith enclosed, a petition from Edward and Franklin -J.IIuraocI-: for author it;/ for their enrolment with tho Uintah bar.d. cf Utes. Investigation shews that their nether was captured by T/hites, one Joseph ...uruock and 'oy hin bore the two children that,-arc the nctitioners for onrolr.-.er.t, that tlh ei ^/w/ X _. _. - -. ,- - - - - - - ...h.e..r. . wi^.f _.e t . bL.y vw-.h.e n .h ,e- wh a.s-. ^o\t, :, -._.• .il. c_. .rL.e ri.t -wui::t*h-e. ijr t. u I.rt.;c.l]iia r..... .._b. lL_oO cordr.. i.e. _ The old nan and the aTnitc children are living in Heber City, the sons that are not Indians live .here also and are possessed of some cattle that range on the border of the Uintah Reservation. It ia presumed that if the petitioners are enrolled with the Uintahs they will pool their reservation interests with their white half brothers and want to gra_:e cattle on the reservation in their own rightpbut mostly in tiie interest of the half brothers of white blood. At a council of the Indians held, on the Oth instant the Uintah Indians signified their willingness for the ...urdock.. to be enrolled/out the Pnite Rivers that were present objected to it. I an.of opinion that so long aa the father of these -lurdocks lives, and they have interests in common arith thuir half brothers, it v/ill be of much disadvantage to the Indians now residing upon the reservation if this petition for enrolment is favored. These petitioners have two sisters, childron of their father rJoseph I.Iurdock and their mother IFettie, that will probably want recognition, all together thjereappcars to be too much to apprehuxd for disadvantage and trouble^ to justify ne in giving a favorable rtaaonn.endortion in this ease, therefore I will be glad if the T.v,- partnent can find legal grounds for denying tha; petition.
