UtaJn "against the Indians, known as the "Utah Tribe", and J supposed7^o be under the leadershin of an Indian by the name of talker- Said Companies left, Salt Lake City on the evening of Pebruary 7th, arriving at Provo the following morning, where they --' found the.-Indians entrenched on tha banks of the Proyo River. After a severe engagement the Indians- were compelled to abandon their position and retire to the mountains, leaving some of their woiaen and "Children. An Indian boy and girl :^vere among the captives, who were, brought uy hy on** of the militiamen named Joseph Murdock. V/hen the Indian girl becwe of age Mr. Murdock married her by wnucu __.«_ had four children named Bet3ey, Alma, Edward and Franklyn. air.
