Show 'A A ' A -- - j£^p J/2 yz*<?^ o/' £/z<? above J would strongly rec commend that the Garrison of Ft,DuchesneZ* by at least four Companies, until these schools are built up; the present meager garrison is utterly inadequate to bring to bear that influence that is necessary to command respect and obedience when the prejudice of the Indians is to contend with, and in case of trouble would be incapable of any more than ttLe task of defending the property of the Post, much less the property or lives at either Agency. for confirviation o f above, let me respectfully refer you to the correspondence^ last fall regarding the contemplated abandonment of Ft,Duchesne, and the reports of Ind. Inspector W.W.Junkin, concerning the filling of the schools Iiere and at Ouray, in Nov,last I trust I take a pardonable priaejin the three fine Buildings erected under my direct supervision,and in consequence of my direct efforts;located on the wide expanceof near SOOOacres of as good land as lays in this mountain region; and the extensive ditch,nearing completion,soon to bring it all unaer water, The fine two span (50)foot bridge across the Uintah (built by my Agency force)combining to make it a most desirable spot, and I would like to see a full school there during my incumbency. If much is to be effected during the present school term Promvt action should be taken. |
