The entrance salary for nurses in the Indian SerYIce is below that for any other branch of the Government service, and the average compensation and allowances glven them is also smaller. The civil-servlce register for nuraea is constantly depleted, and vacancies remain un6lled. There is great demand for more and more com~etennt urses and it is proposed to increase their average salary $60 per year. Many of the Beld matrons have rendered faithful service for years at a Bxed salary, have earned promotion, and should receive it. The above aum will per-mit the slight increase desired.
