Show THE ORIGIN OF THE BEAR DANCE (Maude Moon, 1967. From Newe Natekwinappeh) Bear had a house there. She had her house there in a nice grassy hollow in the mountains. She had children, two children. Bears came to her, many bears. So they had a dance there. They had a dance there. The dance looked nice in the green hollow. There was singing. A person, just one person, came here. She (Bear) was singing. Winni 1 yate stick wiyu standing, Winni yate stick wiyu standing, Branch sun hatch stick wiyu standing, Branch sun hatch stick wiyu standing, he heard. That person said: "What is that? There must be somebody over here," he thought. He peeked out, he came peeking out. Just as he snuck up there, the same sound was made again. (They) started singing. All these bears were dancing. They were all dancing down this way. They were all dancing, lots of bears. There were lots of them. Those two little bear cubs were also dancing. They were dancing right by the person, at the end of the dance line there. That person was lying there, listening to them and watching them while lying. Winni yate stick wiyu standing, Winni yate stick wiyu standing, Branch sun hatch stick wiyu standing, Branch sun hatch stick wiyu standing, it sounded. |
