Show 119 1906 Led by Red Cap, several hundred Utes leave reservation and travel to the Sioux in South Dakota. 1906 Homesteaders move into Arcadia ( Red Cap) to take advantage of governemt- built Red Cap Canal. Post office is established in 1915, discontinued in 1975. 1906 Theodore town hall is erected. 1906 William H. Smart organized Uintah Colonist Bureau and Roosevelt Realty Companies to facilitate settlement of opened lands by Mormons. 1906 Uintah Toll Road built through Bonanza and a freight and telegraph station established there. 1906 Holgate Ditch is surveyed. Opens in 1908 as Duchesne Irrigation Company. Holgate or Pioneer Ditch and Rocky Point Ditch are first irrigation districts established on opened Ute land. 1906 Rocky Mountain Bell Telephone Company ( now Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co.) brings in telephone service to Vernal and later to land rush towns".'' 1907 The." deadline" established in Brown's Park, north of which sheep'were not to be pastured is abolished. However, the sheep boom which had built the town of Linwood, gradually dies out. 1907 Townsite of Hayden is designated by William H. Smart to serve homesteaders who had moved into area in 1906. Some settlers move the next year to Parker. The population of Hayden dwindles and the townsite is abandoned. The post office established the same year is discontinued in 1953, the building razed in 1968. 1907 White Rocks Canal is begun by Whiterocks Irrigation Company. Paradise Park reservoir is eventually constructed. 1907 U. S. Lake Fork Canal is begun. 1907 Uintah National Forest is divided into Ashley, Wasatch and Uintah Forests. 1907 Midview ( Holgate Flat) Ward ( LDS) is organized. 1907 Bluebell is settled; post office established in 1911. 1907 Group of homesteaders from Nebraska locate in area which is named Fruitland in 1904 when post office is established• |
