Juan Bautista de Anza in campaign against Comanches and defeated Comanche chief Cuerno Verde. 1786 Utes opposed to Spanish peach with Comanches- send chiefs Moara & Pinto to protest, but finally give in\* 2> to de Anza's will. 1786 Peack. negotiations at Pecos between Moache Utes, Comanches, Spaniards. 1789 Spanish peach treaty with Utes for assistance against Navajos and Comanches- Spanish also took precautions to prevent Moache Utes from forming alliance with Lipan Apaches. 1801 Spanish use Moache Utes as spies on plains. Utes and Jicarillas join Spanish in campaign against Navajos. 1806 U00 Moache Utes battled about U00 comanches near Taos. 1806 Between 1806- 1826 various Spanish trading ventures went up into Ute territory. 1809 600 Moache Utes and some Jicarillos were attacked on Arkansas River by Comanches, Cuampes, and Kiowas. Killed were Moache chiefs Mano Mocha, the major Moache chief, Delgadito, & El Albo. 1821 Mexican Independence does not change Spanish- Indian relations on northern frontier. 1822 Ute chief Lechat proposes trade with Americans with little results. 18U2 18I| 2 & 1851 Utes drive Mexican settlers out of Conejos Valley. 18UU Capote attack on the Rio Arriba after N. M. Governor kills a Ute with a chair in reception room of governor's palace. 18U5 Capotes attacked OjoCaliente. I8I46 Treaty arranged with Moache after entry of American droops • 1850 Chief Quixiachigiate ( Capote) and 28 subordinate chiefs sigh treaty with Americans. 1350 Utes obtaining arms from Salt Lake Mormons. 1851 Kiowas & Arapahos attacked Moaches near Red River- Utes retreat to Ojo Caliente. 1853 Arapahos & Cheyennes raid Tochoaca's camp. 1853 Indian agent reports war between Moache & Arkansas River tribes- due to scarcity of game- Agent requests that Arkansas R. tribes be prevented entering Moache country- first by Fort Massachusetts & later by Fort Garland. 1853 Rations were distributed to Moaches at Arroyo Hondo & Red River- and also to Capotes on Chama River. |
