FIRST PLACE PjESOHAL RECOLLECTIOH GHABJSCA SITTIKG Joan Hay 261 Uorth llain Salt Lake City, Utah 84103 Soneone gave Grandpa a post card once. It pictured a nan sound asleep in his boat with the fishing line dan^linc over the side. The card read, "Aint's never seen a man, who could worry & fish at the sane time." Grandpa saved the card, put it on the high shelf in the kitchen above 'his' chair. It was because of Grandpa and the -onilosophy on the Dostcard that "Grand-na^SittinG" was invented. The only thing- Grandpa loved more than Grandma was fishinj. He didn't fish with a vengeance; but in his retirement he enjoyed coins out by himself for a day or afternoon in the summer. He didn't like the idea of leaving Grandnn alone because he would worry about her-and with £ood cause. She had a bad heart and diabetes-not that health problems kept her from being any less active. They had also been parried 50 plus years, and the worry was natural. So Grandpa would 'hire1 ne or one of my sisters to stay with Grandma while he fished. If he went fishing at nearby ITine-Kile Ileservoir and would be gone for a short afternoon, i-iana would drive us to Grandma's. If he went to one of his favorite fishing spots farther away he would cone pick us up early in the morning. Occasionally he would fish at Otter Creek or Koosharem Reservoir, They were quite a distance from Gunnison and he would leave in the wee hours of the morning. Those times ve would get to sleep at Grandma's over night. '^nether it was for a few hours in the afternoon 44 |
