' 0.FinC~<.: oF THE NEw ENGLAND EMIGRANT Am CoMPANY, BosTON, SEPT. 8Tn, 1865. DEAR Sm: The Steam Ship '· CONTIN~JNTAL" will sail from ~ew York, <lirect for Puget Sound, about Sept. 20th, to accommodate a party of ladies, composed of the orphan daughters and widows of slain Union soldiers, who propose emigrating to Washington 'ferritory, on the Pacific Coast. Comfortable accommodations can be had for 150 other ladies, at the very low rate of fare ,of $125 each. . Families will be receiYed at the same rate, but that children in familie. · are taken at half price; children from three to six years of age go at quarter fare; and c~ildren under three years old go free. We take the liberty of asking you to call the attention of any ladies, who you think may wish to emigrate to the Pacific Coast, to this opportunity. We have made arrangements with the most sedulous care for the comfort of the party. We know that there is a constant demand for the work of women, in every department, in Washington Territory, and that it is one of the most agreeable and promising points open for emigration. The citizens of the Territory guarantee employment to all women of good character who will come. Passage by any other route, opcm to women, is at least $350, and they are subject to every annoyance. This party will be accompanied by Mr. / Mercer, the Agent of the Territory, and the officers and crew of the ship have been selected under his direction. The Ship has been fitted as a passenger ship by the United States Government, and was the finest vessel in their service for carrying passengers. We do not advertise this emigration in the newspapers, becau5e we J only wish a cla.~s of emigrants who will improve the religion, morals, ancl tone of society of the Territority. None but those who can furnish us goorl references need apply. All kinds of manufacturers are very much needed, and can make money in the Territory, ·hut this Ship takes no men who are not accompanied by their families. 150 pounds of baggage arc allowed each adult passenger. Each passenger is expected to find his or her own bedding. All persons wi~hing to join the expedition, will please write to A. S. MERCEH., at the Merchants' Hotel, Courtland Street, New York, and receive full and definite instructions as to day of sailing, &c. With great respect, Your obedient servants, EDWARD E. HALE, Chairman of Pacific Committee }l. E. Emigrant Aid Company. A. S. MERCER, Emigrant Agent for Washington Territory. |
