Show 3. DESCRIBE THE ALTERATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE. FOR EXAMPLE, HAVE THERE BEEN ANY ADDITIONS? WHERE? WHEN? IN WHAT WAYS HAS USE OF THE INTERIOR SPACE BEEN ALTERED? HAS THE BUILDING BEEN STUCCOED OR OTHERWISE SHEATHED? The only addition to the home was the addition of the screened porch which was added to the East side of the home during the time the Jones family I ived in the home (1921-1928). (This was built from wood)~ The only interior alterations have been the closing of the living room fireplace to accommodate a wood burning stove. No, the building has not been stuccoed or in any way sheathed. From our research, we bel ieve that the grainery was built at the same time the home was built. Those who I ived in Bloomington at the time remember it being built at the same time as the home. It appeared to us as if the bedrooms were added to the basic unit of living room and kitchen at a later date for several reasons: (1) The roof of the I iving room and dining room is shingled under the roof covering the two bedrooms. (2) There seems to be a distinct break in the rock work between the two sections. (3) There is no facia as there is on the I iving room and kitchen portion of the house. However, everyone we spoke to said these rooms were not additions, but rather built at the same time as the main section and grainery. Knowing that the Blakes I ived down the street with Isadora's parents/ it seems hard to believe that they would construct a home without bedrooms as they moved into the house after having lived with the Larsons for their first year of marriage and while their first child was born. We are therefore given to think that perhaps a few months separated the construction of the two sections, but certainly not a few years. |
