Show The forum began at 10:00 a.m. with welcoming remarks from Great Valley Center President David Hosley. Remarks on the topic Why Are We Here? began at 10:15. Speakers included Cynthia Bryant, Director, Governor's Offi ce of Planning and Research; Gregg Albright, Deputy Director, Planning and Modal Programs, California Department of Transportation; and William Craven, Chief Consultant, Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water. Ms. Bryant, representing the Governor's offi ce, spoke about the importance of regional planning processes. Mr. Albright continued by going into detail about why the California Department of Transportation has prioritized and funded Blueprint initiatives across the state. Mr. Craven spoke about the potential impact of Senate Bill 375 on behalf of Senator Darrell Steinberg. The speakers then participated in a brief panel focused on the importance of long-term planning efforts and the related legislative and regulatory proposals coming from Sacramento that could have an impact on the San Joaquin Valley and regional planning processes, and then took questions from participating elected offi cials. The panel was followed by a presentation by Marty Tuttle, Former Executive Director of Sacramento Area Council of Governments. The speech, entitled We Did It: The Advantages of Having Consensus on Your Regional Blueprint, focused on the strategies that were used to overcome challenges and the successes during the Sacramento Area Blueprint Process. 2 |
