At the end of the lecture we ate our l unch and were then taken on a t r ip out to the quarry where excavation was reing carri ed on . Mr . Hicks, one of the men of the camr who before entering the camp didn't kn ow a fossil from any rock, accompanied us and explained in every detail th e meanin[ and why th es e bones are foun d in the soL rock as they are . He al so tol d us how old certain bone s and fossils wer e supposed t o be, as h e had been, ,taug ht wh il e a membe r ·or th e camp . Mr . Hi cks come s fro m New York, and hopes to take up geology as a vocation in being a guide for tourest at th e camp . Sunday,pase;;ed t h r oug,h Vernal at 9 :10 . After a sto p of t en minutes t he group continued on toward Jen sen. All we nt well un t il we h it the road that t urns off the highway t oward the Quarry. After about a mil e on t his road it became almost i mpas sabl e a s t here evidently had " been a cl oud b urst the evening previous and had wash ed rocks , mud and debris into the r oa.d_thut·it was practically impassable, and the truck sunk up t o the axles •. With our capable driver , Srun Petrofesa and the men pushing andpulling and dig ging the truck was finally brought through and the nice shiny shoes and clean trousers were not a very pleasant sight_. When we finally did arrive we had to walk from the main road to the Quarry Camp, as the road was completel y destroyed . Incidently as we were approaching _ t he cam~ men were seen walking down in de ep wash es hunting for car parts as the fl o od the night before had was hed three cars down th e hill side .
