Show The Speed of Light Butch and Fenn Stories 5 Butch's decision about the physical sciences is sidetracked a bit by our discovery of the carp. We are taking samples one day down at the river with the new method: one sample in a jar and one in a coffee can. "It's the new method," Butch says. "What are we trying to prove?" "We don't know that!" Butch yells, spilling the vile of water all over his shoes. "If we knew that we wouldn't have to do this stuff!" When we find the dead carp, giving flies some sun, Butch lets the water sampling slide. "Bring him along." "What is it?" Fen says. "What are we going to do?" "Autopsy." In the basement, Butch straps on the goggles and snaps on that one blue glove and rips the fish open with a pair of old scissors. "I thought we weren't doing any more animal kingdom stuff." "We aren't." Butch holds the fish up and looks into it like a person searching for keys in a purse. "That fish is in the animal kingdom." Fenn goes on. "This fish is dead. He isn't in any kingdom." "God's kingdom?" |
