They don't operate on Wednesday, to begin with; then they hadn't decided to go ahead with it at all, now I guess it is on for 10 AM tomorrow, Friday. Never sawanything so casual - but this is University Hospitals where patients are a guinea pig for Medical students! No need to worry - best neurologist and best neurosurgeon in charge! I talked with a Professor in Engineering School who has interest in water projects and he steered me to Water Law and Poli. Science and Urban Planning professors and I met with a young attorney last night who is on contract with the U. of Wis. law school on a project. He worked at one time for Friends of the Earth in Washington and did the economic evaluation of the Alaska Pipeline for F.0..E He would be interested in helping us on the Project after January! Anyway, I am now in the Sierra Club office getting hack in-gear on writing and mailing Washington people. I knew Mid- western Sierra Club Representative from the years I worked in Wisconsin and he has been filling me in on Washington developments. Just so happened he had a mailing on the Public Works Appropriations bill which President Carter is expected bo Veto so I'm mailing a copy to our Board of Directors. This information comes from Brent Blackwelder, Environmental Policy Center, Washington, It Is imperative we write bo bhe President urging him bo Veto either or both bhe Public Works , Appropriations Bill and bhe Omnibus Rivers and" Harbors Bill (to authorize new Projects). Jonathan Ela, Sierra Club Mid-West Rep., says it is important that Carter hears from Utah - so reproduce copies of this handout and see who will write the President. Maybe you'll have to write the letter and get someone to sign ib if they don't understand the issues. Carter needs to know he has support in the Veto.
