Show COLORADO RIVER COMMISSION OF NEVADA April 29th, 1943. ra m -31943 BKMttWW Honorable Harold L. Ickes, Secretary of the Interior, Washington, D. C. Dear Mr. Secretary: I The Colorado River Commission of Nevada, acting for thefcstatg of Nevada!^ hereby makes formal application for an additional 200,000 ^^ , acre-feet annually of the stored waters of Lake Mead, to be delivered in accordance with all of the terms of the voter contract between the United Stetes and Nevada of date iiarch 30, 1942. Resolution Buthorizing the Chairmen and Secretary of the Colorado River Commission to execute such a supplemental contract was passed at a meeting of the Commission held on April 27, 1943, at Carson City, Nevada. This supplemental contract will enable the withdrawal by tlevada of all of the water from the Colorado iiiver which it is deemed entitled to under the terns of the Boulder Canyon Project Act, the Colorado River Compact and the Boulder Canyon Project Adjustment Act. As yet very liutle progress hes been made between California and Arizona toward agreement on a Colorado River tri-state compact, but both of these states are on record as offering no objection to the rijht of Nevada to 300,000 acre-feat annually. I enclose herewith a tentative draft of our proposed supplemental contract for your reading ^nd suggested changes. It is our desire to have this additional withdrawal of water governed by all of the terms of the existing contract for 100,000 acre feet. I am sending direct to ilr. Richard J. Coffey, District Counsel U. 3. Bureau of Reclamation, at Los Angeles, a carbon copy of this application and draft of suggested form of contract. Very truly yours, Alfred Merritt Smith, Secretary Colorado River Commission of Nevada |
