Show COLLEGIATE LIFE <br><br> virtuous, standing with firm purpose and unafraid to uphold the rights of humanity. <br> Truly, if the United States could boast no other great men, she would be rich in the memory of these. But that the work begun by these great men may be completed, that their ideal of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people may prove the real answer, as it should, to the great question of government, requires the honesty and faithfulness of every one of us as citizens. <br> Already the name of the republic is blotched with corruption, fraud and dishonesty. If democracy is to prove a lasting success it will require more of the same spirit which fired Washington and Lincoln, and that, too, from the mass of the people. As units in this nation let us stand firm on the great principles upon which our republic is based-Liberty, Right, and Justice. <br><br> SUCCESS! WHY NOT? <br> Although but two issues of our paper have been printed thus far, the circulation of Collegiate Life is sufficient to warrant its continued publication and success. This result has been possible only by reason of the hearty co-operation extended us by students, alumni, teachers and our advertisers, the majority of whom have shown much interest in our success and have co-operated nobly in the promotion of our undertaking. <br> The establishment of a school paper or any other paper is always more or less dependent upon the good, hearty support and loyalty of its friends. We have received this support and loyalty and trust that this co-operation may be come cumulative, that we may thereby be enabled to steadly [sic] improve our publication. <br><br> WAKE UP! <br> Almost every live, energetic boy or man enjoys either to watch or play baseball; most young fellows are not satisfied to merely watch the game, but would rather "get in" and beat the opposing team or "bust." Such fellows as these may not eat "Force" or "Shredded Wheat" to get the "ginger," but they "get there" in time to win, just the same. <br> Baseball is the national game and is popular with all because all those who play the game are generally fitted with a good "head-piece," and live clean in order that they may have an "order" of good nature. <br> The C. I. fellows are taking an interest in the game and we're going to have a team without doubt; if the fellows get out to practice regularly we will do a little "can-tearing" ourselves. <br> No man ever played real baseball without plenty of practice, and if he has plenty of practice with the rest of the team the result will be "team work"; if the team as a whole has plenty of good regular practice then the result of the games will be "victory." <br><br> WANTED. <br> What we want for this paper is some "write-ups." We don't care whether they are good or not, we want them just the same. If you are in the habit of hearing good jokes or if you can write a good short story, write them down and slip them to one of the staff members. Or-there is going to be a box put up outside the editorial room in which you can drop any material incognito. <br> Write a story, you can't tell whether or not you are a good writer until you write one-what you might think "rotten" may be good. Hand in a story and see what the opinions of the others are. <br> We assure you that we won't print it if it is not good, so don't be afraid putting yourself forward-you will not be criticized. <br><br> |
