Show The New Mexico Watercolor Society through the foresight and work of Dr. David Gale (1915-1980) founded the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS) in 1975. It is basically several groups of artists interested in watercolor painting who have formed a federation or union of their various societies located in Western states within the USA. The twelve societies now included in this federation have a combined membership in excess of 5,000. The twelve are: AWA cws NVWS NMWS sows SAWG sws uws WTWS Arizona Watercolor Association (Phoenix, AZ) Colorado Watercolor Society (Denver, CO) Nevada Watercolor Society (Las Vegas, NV) New Mexico Watercolor Society (Albuquerque, NM) San Diego Watercolor Society (San Diego, CA) Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild (Tucson, AZ) Southwestern Watercolor Society (Dallas, TX) Utah Watercolor Society (Salt Lake City, UT) West Texas Watercolor Society (Lubbock, TX) TWS wso IWS Texas Watercolor Society (San Antonio, TX) Watercolor Society of Oregon (Oregon) Idaho Watercolor Society (Boise, ID) The purpose of the WFWS is to stimulate interest in water media, exchange educational information and to present annual exhibitions. These exhibitions are designed basically as the national and international shows are and are intended to provide a transition from local and regional shows to the more advanced. Artists are not only encouraged to learn and strive for excellence but are also recognize.d for their achievement through the competitive process. WFWS signature status is an honored and desirable way to show this growth and is awarded an artist after he/she has been juried into four WFWS shows. ' Each society in the federation is independent and autonomous and has one delegate to represent it's society's membership. The annual exhibitions and Board of Delegates meetings are hosted by a different member society each year on a rotating basis. The West Texas Watercolor Society is hosting the 2015 exhibit and delegate meeting.
