Show ------------------ West Texas Watercolor Society West Texas Watercolor Society was organized in 1962 for the purpose of promoting the highest esthetic standards in the art of watercolor. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for the interchange of ideas among persons interested in all forms of water media and to further watercolor art appreciation and education. Most of our members are from the Lubbock and surrounding area but we also have members from other areas in Texas and ten other states. The membership totals for the last few years have remained around 100. Our organization holds regular monthly meetings from September through May of each year with programs designed to educate and entertain members and visitors. We sponsor one or more workshops each year to bring in nationally recognized artists to share their knowledge and techniques with those wishing to take the class or watch a demonstration. We plan one day paint-outs for artists at locations in the immediate area on a monthly basis (weather permitting) and once a year have a seven to ten day paint-out at the Texas Tech Extension Center in Junction, Texas. In addition, the Society provides scholarships for deserving individuals interested in or r ith studies related to visual arts. 1997-1998 WTWS BOARD President 1st VP-Programs 2nd VP- Exhibits 3rd VP -Workshops Secretary Treasurer/~embership Western Federation Representative Newsletter Publicity Junction Function Librarian/Historian ~emorials Exhibits Awards Funds Signature Show Paint Outs Scholarships/Education Yvonne Swinney Lela Spencer Shirley Hodges Carol Howell Ruth Rogers Eddie Bynum Linda Edwards Liz Brandt Margie Fowler Jean Howle Eileen Garrett La Wanda Murfee Beth Pennington Betty Blevins Marilyn Mize Lois Lawrence WTWS President's Statement The West Texas Watercolor Society is proud to be a part of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and have the opportunity to present the 23rd annual exhibition. What a wonderful way to share our art and our hearts. Art can bridge differences in culture, language, gender and age. By entering shows such as this, artists give us a chance to look into their world - their mind, their heart and their soul - not just a glimpse at their abilities. I applaud each for entering the show and sharing your art whether your work was accepted or not. You are a winner in your own way. Our thanks go to Linda Edwards for her dedication and tenacity in preparation for this exhibit, the "working" members of our organization, and the area businesses who supported us in our endeavor. Katherine Chang Liu did a great job in selecting the show and in judging for awards. We also appreciate and thank the Museum of Texas Tech University staff for their help in hanging the exhibition and the Lubbock Arts Alliance for their backing. Yvonne Swinney 5 |
