WFS was founded by the New Mexico Watercolor Society, through the foresight and work of Dr. David Gale (1915-1980). Today WFS includes over 5000 artists in 11 regional societies. WFS sponsors an annual juried exhibition which is hosted by a regional member society. This year's exhibition, hosted by the West Texas Watercolor Society and exhibited at the Museum of Texas Tech University, was juried by Katherine Chang Liu, a nationally recognized artist. From 921 entries, the number was narrowed to 8 7 paintings by 8 7 artists for this, the 23rd Annual Exhibition. Works on paper, including paper collage, were created with a variety of water-based media: gouache, casein, tempera, acrylic, and transparent or opaque watercolors. A diversity of artistic expression is the result.
