Show AL W. LAYTON WL: Y . They aid, You're not longer fit for military duty." a hundred p rcent total di ability. WPE: Really? AWL: Ye . It's on the forms. WPE: Well, you certainly weren't permanently disabled (laugh ). 29 2 it h w Okay, so you were out of the Army. I guess you wife was waiting for you or I guess she visited you quite often at Bushnell. AWL: The minute I arrived up there, she was there. During my stay at Bushnell, I was able to have some leaves. I had an uncle in Idaho, who was a fisherman out of the Teton or the Saint Anthony area. So I spent some time with him. Initially, he took me in every saloon, pool hall, business building in that Teton area and aid, "This is the guy who won the war." That was kind of fun. There was no better therapy than to be out on a fishing stream and catching fish. That was great rehabilitation time. WPE: So you got to fish up around the Teton area. Was that before they built the dam up there? AWL: That was before they built it. WPE: So in October you got released. Did you come back to Salt Lake? AWL: Well, we lived with my wife's parents, the Snelgroves, at 840 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City, right next to the store. WPE: Of Snelgrove's Ice Cream? AWL: Yes, they had a lovely big home there. We lived with them for a while. Then we got a duplex over on Seventeenth South. Then here came our family. WPE: Did you plan on going back and finishing your degree? 56 |
