You may get me guy that isn't from this school, and you say you're not going to have sex. But you get turn d on, and all of a sudden-but you've got the rubbers." And we didn't have a pregnancy. I said, "I'm not for this. I don't want you kids out there having sex, but I know some of you are going to, and that's the way we keep from getting pregnant." WIN: You mentioned something about being head of the union. Would you like to ... ? RED: Oh, yes. There's two unions in California: The CT A, California Teachers Association, and AFT, the American Federation of Teachers which is a nationwide , probably pretty far left, teachers union. I didn't like what CFT was doing, so I joined the other one, and almost immediately was elected president of it. I think at that time we only had something like ten members. And that's when I got the eight percent raise for them when the other union only got four. So the next year I had all but about six or eight of the teachers who stayed with their other union. In mine, I again got an eight percent raise, which brought us up pretty close to what L.A. was getting, which was my goal. It was to have us equivalent to what the L.A. teachers were getting. And I'd get some fringe benefits and that sort of stuff that we weren't getting. See, what they didn't realize is I'd been on the other side of the table with SDS, with all of the regular unions we had in that company, and fighting the battle. And I'd learned all of their tricks, and so I was just using them against these idiots running the school district. You terrmize them is what you do. I threw an ashtray at them one day, 96 |
