Show ROB RT W. HAT H 27 P MB R 2002 faulty brakes. Anyway the aircraft jumped the shocks and th props hit into th back f this gasoline tanker loaded with fuel. Well, you can imagine what happened th re. Th crew chief and all of the people in the whole area got out, left right then. We had a gasoline tank. We had fire all over that airfield. That aircraft-the one that jumped the shocks-was engulfed in total flames, and that blew up. When that blew up, we were on what we called butterfly hard stands. There were several, five other aircraft parked in the close vicinity. That threw gasoline on all of them, and they were all loaded. We got called out there. Well, my crew got there before I did-1 got notified last. So when I got out, got dressed and looked in the airfield, the whole thing was full of-the sky was lit with fire. I ran to the fire station, there was one kid there, one fireman, and the cardox truck, the C02 truck. So I jumped in the C02 truck and ran out there, and went up to the-1 got stopped on the way by an air police. He says, "Hey, you can't go out there." I said, "Wait a minute, where's my crew?" He said, "They're still out there." I said, "Well get out of the way." He said, "You're nuts." So I drove my truck into the middle of this area, and I had one crew working on one aircraft, as best they could. We only had one truck and we were working on this one plane. Another one was burning like crazy. And I see this C02, I can hit that tanker with the C02, and maybe knock down the fire until the C02 was gone, and then it would just ignite again and would be useless. So I can see that things-! was worried about that plane, it was going to blow. It was almost white, it was burning white. BB: Is that what happens to them when they-? RH: Yeah. You get so you can tell what color. Anyway, so I told the kid to get the truck and get it out of there, and I started running over to this other aircraft, yelling at the 32 |
