| Abstract |
Elston (b. 1928) was drafted into the army in 1950 and trained with A Company of the 973re Army Engineers at Camp Carson before moving to Fort Riley to assist with flood cleanup. He was assigned to the 8206 Amphibious Training Command of the Army Engineers as an electrician. He was based in Pusan and oversaw operations at the NCO club. He was discharged at the rank of staff sergeant in 1952. Interviewed by Jason Hardy. 27 pages. |

Show So I went up with them. We were up on on the water th ugh and I didn t g ashore, but we went and raided them one night. Those guerrillas went in in rowboat and harassed them a little bit. We were firing - we had the bomb mine destroyer firing for us and we just had one of those little operations, I guess you'd call it. Harassment operation. JAS: So you're throwing grenades then? LOW: No, no. I wasn't throwing any grenades. We were out in the water just waiting for them to come back. JAS: Okay. LOW: I don't know what they did ashore; I didn't pay that much attention to them, but I know they were in and harassed them. JAS: This is January of ' 52; it must be pretty cold. LOW: Well, that wasn't January of ' 52, that was later on. That was in the summer time. I got there in January of ' 52, but this was after, during the summer, that following summer while I was up there. I just went up there with them and I was there from January- from the last of January - to the middle of October until I came home for discharge. JAS: So you were telling me earlier about some generators that you helped to set up. LOW: Oh, yeah, we had generators up there. When I got up to that outfit, why, they had the generators. The wires were laying on the ground - of course, these were three phase generators and they'd have a couple wires hooked to them and actually it takes four wires to get them working right.
