| Abstract |
Levorsen (b. 1922) was born in Magna, Utah. He joined the Marine Corps "Mormon Battalion of 1943" and took training in San Diego, California. He was based in New Zealand before joining combat in Tarawa and later Saipan. He briefly discusses his experiences. He was part of the 4th Battalion, Battery L, 10th Marines, 2nd Division. He returned to the US (North Carolina and Florida) for additional training before discharge when the war ended. Mr. Levorsen worked as a school teacher for his profession. Interviewed by Benjamin Bahlmann. 30 pages. |

Show TIDS IS AN INTERVIEW WITH PAUL W. LEVOR EN ON EPTEMBER21, 2002. THE INTERVIEWER IS BENJAMIN BAHLMANN. THI I THE PROJECT "SAVING THE LEGACY: AN ORAL HISTORY OF UTAH' WORLD WAR II VETERANS." TAPE No. 541. [Note: At the time of this interview, Mr. Levorsen was suffering from the early onset of dementia and his hearing was diminished. Mr. Levorsen' s son, Allan Levorsen, sent back a note with the draft transcript indicating that Mr. Levorsen was now in advanced stages of dementia and was unable to personally review the draft. However, some years earlier Mr. Levorsen had prepared a written history of his experiences. Allan reviewed the transcript and included some clarifications/corrections to the draft, mainly taken from Mr. Levorsen's written history. These modifications have been added in italics throughout the document.] BB: Today is September 21, 2002. We're in the home of Paul W. Levorsen. We're in his home in Murray, Utah. This is Ben Bahlmann conducting the interview. [Mrs. Levorsen is also present and occasionally comments] What is your birthday? PWL: Seven-seven-twenty-two. July 7. BB: Where were you born? PWL: Magna, Utah. BB: Do you have siblings? PWL: Yes. BB: How many and where do you fit in? PWL: I was number two of seven. I have, what, five sisters (laughs). BB: So one brother?
