Show THERON H. YATES PT MB 2,2004 somebody had been living in it. They had a dog there but nobody was th re wh n I g t there. BEC: That's interesting. So when were you born? What was your birth date? THE: March 28, 1916. BEC: All right. So you said that you lived out there long enough to go to school a couple of years, then you moved? THE: Actually, my dad moved around a lot. Things weren't good. I don't know. We lived in Salt Lake first. He did, and he had a good job. But his dad-in-law always wanted him to come out there and live out there. That's the reason he moved because of his dad-in-law. Of course my mother was there too. Anyway, then he had to go elsewhere to work to make a living. So from there he went to Eureka and worked up there in a garage as a mechanic up there. He made a living that way. But us boys, we didn't want to stay up there so we went back to Benmore. I lived with one of my uncles and my brother lived with another uncle. We grew up and then we moved back with my folks. My brother went back first and then I came about a year later. By that time, they were living in Vernon. V emon is seven miles north of Benmore. That town is still there. There must be somewhere around 450 people out there scattered around. BEC: You told me, when we spoke on the phone, that your brother still lives in Vernon. THE: In Vernon, yes. BEC: Tell me who your parents were. What were their names? THE: Mother was Zena Oborn. That was her maiden name. My dad was Hyrum Yates. My dad, he was on a mission. He came-well, anyway, that doesn't have anything to do with this. Anyway, he worked at sawing wood with a machine-! don't know what you 3 |
