| Abstract |
Allan (b. 1919) was born in Garfield, Utah. He enlisted in the army in 1941, took basic training in Everett, Washington, and was shipped to a B-17 squadron at Hickam Field. He was at Midway and in the Solomon Islands in 1942, then graduated from OCS at Camp Davis in 1943. He was assigned to 10th Army headquarters at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, then shipped to Hawaii to participate in the planning for the invasion of Okinawa. He was engaged in the battle for Okinawa. After the war Allan was assigned to the 17th Army headquarters in Seoul, Korea, as liaison officer. He was discharged in early 1946, but stayed in the reserves and retired with 36 years of military service. Interviewed by Becky Lloyd. 34 pages. |

Louie B. Ely was the G2 and he left about nine o'clock that morning and h hadn't come back by noon and things were pretty stagnant at that time. All the major and lieutenant colonels and couple of captains were in there. Most of them were high rankers. So he didn't come back after lunch so most of them took off and went recreating. It was my scheduled afternoon off. So that night I went downtown to a show or something. Kenny was the warrant officer and he came down on his way that night or he called me up. Anyway, he called me up and said, "Let me tell you something, just so you know. Don't tell them I told you, but you're going to be court-martialed in the morning." "What the hell for?" He said, "You left with the rest of those guys so they 're going to make an example out of you, a lieutenant." So I said to him, "Did you look at the roster, Kenny?" We had one afternoon a week off. That was all. We worked Sundays and everything but we had one off. He said, "What do you mean?'' I said, "That was my afternoon off. Now don't you say anything to anybody because I don't want them to think that you told me." So he said, "I won't say anything. I just thought that you ought to know." So the next morning I went in there and they were all sitting in the Colonels office looking out at me. They had a scribe and the whole bit. So they called me in there and read me my rights for few minutes and then I said to the colonel, "Now before you go any further with this and you really get embarrassed ... " I went and had some copies made of the days off schedules. I went in the night before and took them down and had some guys make copies of them for me, six or seven. " ...
