Show ANN HARP T 10 2001 BEC: Wow. ANN: And we had to stand in line like for soup kitchens or stuff lik that. And we were because we were so malnourished, during these years that we got sores on the sides of our legs. And I still have, you can still see the white marks, but they used to be big boils on both, because-! don't know why that is when you don't get enough-because you see so much of it in the third-world countries where people break out and that kind of thing. That's because you just don't have the right kind of food. And so we had boils on and we would go to the clinic, and they would put plasters on it and try and heal it up. But it didn't really heal up until you started getting some- BEC: Nutrients again. ANN: Nutrients again, yeah. BEC: So when did the rationing start, do you recall that, what year that was? ANN: I think that was in '43, when it started. But the worst of it came with '44, when it was, when there really wasn't a whole lot. BEC: Yeah. ANN: There were so many- UNIDENTIFIED PERSON: Good morning. BEC: How are you doing? ANN: So many things going on that we just couldn't do anything about, you know that oh I don't know. The soup kitchens that we used to go to, it was more like ' ' ' water with a piece of celery and a carrot in it maybe, but it filled. BEC: Uh-huh. That'd be something. 16 |
