Show CORA LEE JOHNSON END OF SIDE B, TAPE 1 MARCH 6, 2002 BEC: We're continuing on with our interview of Cora Lee Johnson. Today's date is March 6, 2002. Go ahead and continue. COR: When you say March the 6t\ it's my brother, Fred, eighty-ninth birthday today. We' ll be going into a big family party at his home, at my niece, Cora Lee's-his baby daughter's home-on Saturday. BEC: COR: BEC: COR: BEC: COR: How great. But he takes care of himself, as my brother, Frank, does. Yeah. Anyway, I was telling you about theThe type test that you got eighty on. The type test. Well, they teased me. They said, "Did the old man type that for you?" And I said, "No, he didn't. Of course Commander Snydo wouldn't type that for me." "Did he bring somebody else in to type that for you?" I said, "He most certainly didn't. They said, "Well, you didn't." I said, "Well, I did, I sure did." He hung up the phone, took the papers and told me I was released. "Well, I don' t believe you." Gaye said to me, she said, "Did he really type it for you?" And I said, "No, he did not. No, he did not. I went about six weeks and I told them what happened. They just died laughing. They said, "What did you do, hunt and peck?" I said, "No, I didn' t. I typed. But I typed slow and exact because I knew. Anyway, I had a lot of experiences with Commander Snydo. He came from a family of eight girls. He went to sea- no boys- he went to sea when he was twelve years old. When the war came, he was given a post. He 41 |
