Grant Morrell (b. 1924) enlisted in the Marines' "Mormon Battalion Platoon" in 1942. He was a member of the signal corps in Hawaii, the Marshall Islands, and Clearfield, Utah. He served as a recruiter in the Reserve and at Camp Pendleton during the Korean War before retiring in 1954. 32 pages. |

Show GRANT MORRELL p R 11 2 students who said that their son and daughter-in-law had stay din th family h m they were on a mission and the parents were now back home and the kid w r avail and we talked to them. They were just a young couple both working going to sch l. We showed them the facilities. They said, "Just leave everything as it is and we won t damage anything." So we just emptied a couple of closets and a dresser and made some changes in the kitchen and left this young couple and they were here when we got back. And so was the condo just as we had left it. It was most enjoyable. BEC: Oh, that's great. How many children do you have? You told me about the one. GRA: We have three: Marche, of course, born in California. Then two years later Manette came along; we were living in the A venues then. We moved over to Rose Park, you know where that area of the city is up there? BEC: Uh-huh, right. GRA: Into a new home, built right from the ground up. We signed up for the lot and knew what was going to put on top and we watched it grow and finally moved in in '55. Yeah. Rose Park. And Gam was born there five years later after Manette, and so we had those three kids growing up. Wonderful neighborhood in Rose Park. And then Lois' mother and father had been living on J Street in a two-story building and it was just getting difficult for them to go up and down the stairs all the time. So we says, "Well, come and live in our apartment." Because our home, the one we found on West Capitol Street, was large, had a two-car garage, two bedrooms upstairs, two more downstairs, and an apartment, a two-bedroom apartment on the side. So Mom and Dad Hoff, Lois' parents, came and moved in with us. And it worked fine except it was hard because they 31 |
