Show DAVID LOFGREN I said "I am." Now it's not Mormon, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day aint . I tillli Mormon. But, anyway, I said, "I am." "Well, where did you learn how to mak co :D ?" aid "From a sheepherder." He said, "From a sheepherder?" Earlier, I was sent as liaison with the Philipinos because, you see there were a lot of Japanese still up in the mountains that wouldn't admit that their emperor, who was a God, could ever have surrendered. So we had people going up there and the Japanese were shooting at them. Well, the worst bunch were merchant marines. They wanted to go up and get souvenirs. I got word that there were a couple of merchant marines floating in the Americana River downstream that had been shot and thrown in the river by the Japs, the Japanese. I'm not supposed to say Japs because I've got a lot of good friends that are Japanese. But, anyway, my job was to go up and get the bodies back. So I went up. They had been in that warm water, the Americana River, for three days. When I grabbed hold of this one's hand to try and lift him off to the shore where I could put him on my shoulder, all the skin came off. Needless to say, I didn't eat anymore meals that day. Well, I finally got him up on my shoulder, and I never did find the second one. But I took him back into camp and turned him over to them, and he (making sounds that indicated his condition). You know, not very good for your intestinal fortitude. But another occasion I got a call that one of the Philipinos had been dynamiting fish in the Americana River. See, you toss dynamite in, and it knocks them unconscious, and then you just gather them up. They float. And I got there and he had blown off one hand- I'm not sure |
