You know if th y had run they might have got- but if you hit the brakes fast, they'll hit the street and you just k p g ing. 1 So only once did I have a real nasty occasion of taking an SS that he said he was going to - a soldier, officer - that he was going to escape and kill me. Well, I had to make the rest of my run-down, and so it was going to be about an hour. So I hogtied him in what I call the- I've even forgotten the name. Anyway, you put a handcuff knot on the arms at the wrists and the elbow, and a handcuff knot on the feet, and then loop up around the neck so they struggle. They're choking themselves. And then I threw him over my shoulder, and threw him in the bam, and covered him up with mostly dry cow manure so he wouldn't freeze to death because it was cold. When I came back he was still unhappy, very unhappy. An SS officer, you know, and "Nobody did that to them." I took him back to regimental headquarters, and hauled him into the building, the house they were in. And I said, "Here he is." I left him tied up. I just laid him on my shoulder. And I said, "He's yours. You can hose him off, and do what you want." And (sniffing). "Where did you get him?" "Take him out and shoot the SOB." I said, "No, he's yours." "I've gone out and caught him." "You get the questions out of him, and then you can shoot him. Or you can just hose him off." I says, "in this cold weather I'd hose him before I shot him." And I just turned around and left. But, you know, another occasion. This wasn't a soldier. You know these flashlights that you squeeze, the generator? We were in a little village, and I saw a flashlight going on/off, on/off, on/off from a house. And I thought he's letting them know that the American soldiers |
