Show JOEPER CHO R JOE: No they'd just take a big rack and put th fillant, th fi rgla spinner, and then the epoxy in and out through there and pull th big cabl and lla the plaster of Paris form that they had where the tape was put over th form thi would not stick to it. BEC: Oh, I see. JOE: And that was part of it. And aircraft we had a lot of tapes that went right with the aircraft. I was at Hill Field, Hercules, Thiokol, Hewlett Packard, places like that. In Texas I went into El Paso, into Juarez, into the manufacturing plants there. See there were a lot of American companies there: Chrysler, RCA, Ford, and a lot of electronic companies in El Paso, or Juarez, because of the labor situation. You get cheap labor down there. BEC: Wow. That's a lot of traveling you did. JOE: It was interesting work, very interesting work; it was not common work. You had to know a little bit about what you were doing. For instance, you recommend the wrong tape for a four thousand, five thousand dollar electrical motor. If it bums up, you've got a problem. And if it bums up because of your tape, you really have a problem. So you have to make sure you recommend the right tape that will stand the temperature, stand the electrical shock, corrosion and everything else. So it was interesting. BEC: JOE: Right. That does sound interesting. So, when did you meet your wife? I met my wife through a friend (laughs). He was always into automobiles and he had the first Buick convertible in 1950 that came into the valley. And he was dating her. I knew he was cheap. 36 |
