Show THI I AN INTERVIEW WITH JOE PER CHO 0 J INTERVIEWER IS BECKY B. LLOYD. THI I THE PROJ LEGACY: AN ORAL HISTORY OF UTAH'S WORLD WAR II TAPE NO. 421. BEC: This is an interview with Joe Perschon at his home in alt Lake City, soon to be Holladay, I understand? JOE: Well, Holladay's at Forty-fifth. They're still debating whether we' re going to go into Holladay or not. Our tax base is not commercial. They don't really want us. Eventually if they don't Salt Lake will grab you because the Legislature says there won't be unincorporated areas anymore. BEC: Okay. So you're still in Salt Lake, then. Let's see, today's date is January 15, the year 2002. My name is Becky Lloyd, and this is part of the Saving the Legacy Project. Joe, let's start with when and where you were born. JOE: I was born in 1921, Salt Lake City, Utah, the eighth of nine children, which several of them are still alive and the youngest of them is seventy-eight, so you see we've got things coming shortly. Went to school here up through the University; did not graduate, however. BEC: Now where was your family living when you were born? JOE: In west Salt Lake City, 831 Washington Street in Salt Lake City, which is the old Eighth and Ninth South, First and Second West. BEC: I see. JOE: I always said the poor part of town. BEC: Yeah, I know that area. |
