Show couraged and strengthened by native helpers and later by return of the foreign mission ary. Not far from the old site, on a busy street opposite an official's residence,is a neat chapel for domestic use on Sunday and daily street preaching during the week. Separated from it by a court is a long house, a Chinese building, remodeled, having seven or eight rooms, and porches the entire length both in the front and rear, a place commodious and comfortable for missionaries to use if only the force of workers in our North China Mission were sufficient to carry on the work of the station. The east rooms in this house were appropriated by me. One, in which was a stove, was my bed room, dining room and reception room. That adjoining it was used for a school room.
