The philosophical and philological substructure of this principle is ineluctable. Excessively attenuated verbal symbols inevitably induce unnecessary complexity and consequently exagerate [sic] the obfuscation of the mentality of the peruser. Conversely, expressions which are reduced to the furthermost minimum of simplification and compactness, besides contributing realistic verisimilitude, constitute a much less onerous handicap to the reader's perspicacity.
Observe, for instance, the unmistakable and inescapable expressiveness of onomatopoetic, interjectional monosyllabic utterances, especially when motivated under strenuous emotional circumstances. How much more appealing is their euphonious pulchritude than the preposterous and pretentious pomposity of elongated verbiage.-Life

Senior play hour. Second period P. As was expected, a great amount of public-spirited enthusiasm was in evidence.
The elections were held immediately after the close of school, when all the students met in the assembly, where the elections were to take place. The candidates for office were as follows: Robt. Hutchins, Magda Johanson, Edwin Davis, Robt. Braffet, Georgianna Robertson, Anna Sponburg, James Ashton, Olive Wetterstrom, Jack Allen, and Leslie Johnson, of the students, and Mr. Johns, Mr. Sweazey, Miss Paden, Miss Moore, Miss Linn and Miss Smith of the faculty. Of these the following members were elected to office: Magda Johanson[,] Robt. Braffet, Jas. Ashton. Jack Allen, Leslie Johnson, Mr. Sweazey and Mr. Johns. Four old members were retained on the Council, and it is expected that these, with their experience, backed by the new ideas and fresh interest of the incoming members, will be able to render an exceptionally valuable amount of service during their term of office. Their most important work will be the organizing and financing of the baseball and other athletic activities during the spring. To do this the Council must have the loyal support of every member of the school in both a pecuniary way and by spirited encouragement.

|
