Show -12- THE TOINT CONVENTION OF MPLA/SWLA Approximately 1200 librarians from fourteen states attended the joint convention of the Mountain Plains Library Association and the Southwestern Library Association from November 11 to 13. Unfortunately, Gus Hanniball, who had to resign earlier this year as President of MPLA because of illness, was not able to make the meeting this year. Several other members of the Marriott Library staff were there and participated in some of the convention programs. Six preconference workshops were held, including one on "Public Relations: PR TICK CLICK" in which practical "how-to" tips were available, along with discussion of common problems libraries face. Elizabeth Runyon- Lancaster conducted a session on "Internal Communication: Our Greatest Challenge" which demonstrated how problems within an organization affect public relations. Later in the same preconference, M s . Runyon-Lancaster displayed activities and organization of the University of Utah Libraries' Friends. The College and University Library Section of MPLA sponsored a program entitled "Recipes for Organizational Change: MRAP and Others" in which Roger Hanson and Bob Runyon gave presentations. Also contributing their experiences with library self-assessment efforts were Don Nelson, Director of the Harold B. Lee Library at B.Y.U., and Duane Webster, Director of the Office of University Library Management Studies in the Association of Research Libraries . --Bob Runyon- LIBRARY INVOLVEMENT: HERE A N D ELSEWHERE Eloise McQuown. Social and Behavioral Sciences Librarian, was featured speaker and workshop leader for the intermountain conference of the CPS-Associates-West recently held in Pocatello, Idaho. Ms. McQuown addressed the group on the conference theme, "Opportunities and Obstacles for Women in Business." |
