Kindly explain the following to Archbishop Porphyrios, when you see him again - or, if you have time, when you write him: When I explained my willingness to act as Honorary Representative for the monastery in America, I was as deeply interested in the monastery as I am today. However, when I tried to inten&t other people who, like myself, are non-Orthodox Christians, they expressed the view that this should be of concern to Orthodox Christians; but to these I have practically no contacts, except that I attended some of their services. rHie only real service I could render the monastery was to participate actively in the negotiations which resulted in the contribution of |10,000 when the manuscripts were microfilmed. I hope and believe that by this help I have earned, morally, the honor which they conferred upon me. Now I am leaving NY and am going to a resort place of 40,000 people where I have practically no opportunity to work for the monastery. For these reasons I suggested that the monastery XKHasiH entrusts its interests to Dr.Perry Voultsos, 50 Overlook terrace, NY 33, NY. He is by birth a Greek, naturally a member of the G-reek Church and many Greek societies, writes Greek as well as English, and is interested in reigious as well as historical matters. By profession musician. The monastery should not go to any expense, such as preparing a parchment document (as they were kind enough in my case). Everything can be done by letters. He could be honored by the decoration only after he has created some tangible interest for the monastery in Greek circles of America. Kindly impress upon the Archbishop the fact that my heart is as sincerely interested as always. It is not my desire to get rid of a task, but simply my desire to put the work I attempted into hands more likely to succeed. Even if the Archbishop accepts my suggestion, I shall remain at his disposal at any time and in very way I can, gladly and with pleasure. |
