Correspondences dated 1949-1950 regarding Mount Sinai Project commencement. Six documents, eight pages total. Document one: Letter dated 3 Jan. 1950 from Prof. R. Draguet of the University of Louvain to William Albright containing news of other colleagues as well as instructions for manuscripts that are in Syriac, Georgian, Greek, and Arabic. Written in French. Document 2: Letter dated 27 Aug. 1949 from Wendell Phillips to Dr. Luther Evans concerning negotiations made between Dr. Atiya and Archbishop Porphyrios III for the realization of the Mount Sinai manuscript project. Document 3: Letter dated 4 Nov. 1949 from Dr. Evans to Dr. Atiya thanking him for his work and expressing hope to acquire the required monetary donation to the monastery. Document 4: Letter dated 21 Nov. 1949 from Dr. Atiya to Dr. Evans thanking him for his reply and for the chance to commence on the project. Document 5: Letter dated 23 Aug. 1949 at Cairo, from Archbishop Porphyrios III to Dr. Evans with the terms and conditions upon which the archbishop will allow the project to commence. Document 6: Letter dated 30 Nov. 1949 from Verner W. Clapp, Acting Librarian of Congress, to Dr. Atiya with news that final arrangements have been completed and the Mount Sinai manuscript photograph project will commence as planned |
