Show 126 1939 Rural Electrification Project is completed to LaPoint. 1939 Uintah Railway goes out of business and track is dug up. 1939 Town of Dragon is abandoned and post office is discontinued . 1940 Rural Electrification Project is completed to Tridell. 1941 Gusher Union Chruch, organized about 1935, builds chapel. 1944 Roosevelt Hospital opened. 1945 Farmer's Irrigation Co. consolidates with Dry Gulch Irrigation Co. 1945 St. Helen's Catholic Church is built at Roosevelt. 1947 Radio station KJAM begins broadcasting. 19 48 Hill Creek Extension is added to the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. 1948 Utah's first commercial oil well comes in at the Ashley Valley field. An oil refinery is located at Jensen by . Uintah Oil Company. 19 49 Upper Colorado River Basin Compact is negotiated. 1950s Daggett citizens obtain water rights from tributaries of Carter Creek. Water table in the county had been lowering since turn of the century. 1950 Pipeline for gilsonite is built from Bonanza to Grand Junction, Colorado where refinery is built. 1952 Uintah Boarding School is closed. 1953 Altamont post office established by moving to this community the post office which had been established in 1917 at Mount Emmons. 1955 Mixed- blood Utes become organized as Affiliated Ute Citizens and terminate relationship with federal government. 1956 Colorado River Storage Project Act is passed by Congress. Four of the six planned unites are authorized for construction. These include Upalco, Vernal and Jensen. 1956 U. S. Congress passes enabling act for projects at Glen Canyon, Central Utah, Flaming Gorge and others. |
