Dutch John Flat is selected as site for trailer city which houses construction workers for Flaming Gorge Dam. 1962 1963 1964 1965 The Vernal Unit of the Central Utah Project is completed. Flows out of Ashley Creek are diverted at Fort Thornburgh Dam through three- mile long Steinaker Canal for storage in Steinaker Reservoir. Municipal water is furnished to Vernal, Naples and Maeser. Electric power generators at Flaming Gorge are put into operation. Flaming Gorge Dam and the lake, which covers the town of Linwood, is dedicated. Northern Ute Bands receive $ 13 million in claims awards. 1965 1968 Some 14,500 acres in Brown's Park are made a Federal Wildlife Refuge.
