Atiya 14 Sharia Wadi el Nil Maadi (Near Cairo) Egypt. My Dear Aziz: Thank you for your fine letter of December the 20th, which arrived during my recent absence in California. Although I was in bed with eight days of the flu, I did enjoy getting home for Christmas. Unfortunately this flu kept me from getting to the University of California, although I tried to contact President Sproul several times over the telephone but was unable to reach him. I will do my best to contact him before I leave New York for Egypt again so that I can see if I can get what information possible relative to your going to U.C.L.A. While I was out in California, the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce presented me with the Yonng Man of the Year award for the State of California, which was very nice and about eight hundred people were present for the banquet. If I had not been so sick with the flu, I would probably have enjoyed it more. A few minutes ago I talked to Dr. Abu Zeid by telephone from New York and although I could hear him quite well at the start, finally the conversation faded out and I was unable to reach him again. I did however send him a cable right afterwards. I am doing my best to set up a proper organization with sufficent capital to take over Sinai and the Eastern Desert. What I am especially interested in, and one of the reasons I called Dr. Abu Zeid, was to ascertain if the Eastern Desert and Sinai were still available and especially am I interested in obtaining thafcft)Anglo- Egyptian oil fields and thqfeJSocony Vacuum oil fields area. These are the areas which were previously held by Shell for Anglo-Egyptian and Socony and which were disputed and finally were taken over by the Egyptian Government. I am extremely interested in getting these in my area from the Egyptian Government, and it is very important from the standpoint of securing sufficent backing and capital from the United States if I can get these areas. When you next see Dr. Abu Zeid, be sure and give him my very best greetings. I certainly enjoyed talking to him on the telephone and am sorry we couldn't have had a little longer visit. |
