Show Prof. A.S. Atiya (Cont'd) Jan 11, 1954 Page If everything works out satisfactorily here in New York with regard to our plans for the Eastern Desert and Sinai, I should be returning to Egypt in the latter part of January, in that the time is very short before the new Law goes into effect - I believe it's the 19th of February. Then it will be impossible to take over large areas in Egypt. I understand from Dr. Abu Zeid that Conorado is taking over the Western Desert but that they are still in the negotiating stages. With regard to your book on the Arabic microfilms in Mount Sinai, I am happy to tell you that we are in the final stages here and the book will go to press in the next few weeks. All the arrangements have been made and the book should be coming out in the early part of this year. I am sorry for the delay in this, but if it had come out through the Library of Congress, you would have had a paper covered pamphlet affair which would have reflected credit on no one. Now you will have a beautiful volume which should reflect a great deal of credit on all concerned and especially on yourself. I am putting it out as Number One in the series of publications of the American Foundation for the Study of Man, which will be under the editorship of Professors W.F. Albright and Kasper J. Kraemer. I know you will be pleased with the result and again ask your forgiveness for the delay in this regard I do hope your brother is now much better, please give him my best wishes and the same to your lovely wife. I trust next time when I am in Cairo we'll have an opportunity to see more of each other. Believe me I understand the circumstances during our last visit, and only wish I could have been a little more helpful during your pressing problems. My best personal wishes. |
