Show Hannah Mae and the Mona Lisa 34 8 Miss Larkin said for me to come to the bam when I arrived because that's where Mr. Morris has his studio. I walked kind of slow. I sure wasn't planning on dropping in before I was expected. I knocked on the bam door and fidgeted, trying to decide whether I should keep my eyes wide open or sneak them shut. Whew! Miss Larkin appeared with nothing bare but her feet. She gave me a friendly smile and led me to a huge room bright with sunlight. Miss Larkin asked, "Do you mind waiting for a minute, Hannah? Kenneth . . . Mr. Morris is just about finished with me, and then he can help you with your project." I nodded and sat on a hard chair against the wall. Miss Larkin took her place at a table strewn with yellow flowers and a blue enamel teapot. She wrapped a lacy shawl around her shoulders and picked up a leather book. Sunlight broke across her shoulders and fell on the table and Miss Larkin struck a pose like she was reading a grand story- something tragic, I suspect. |
