Atiya 1335 Perry Avenue Salt Lake City Utah 84103 Dear Aziz, I must apologize for being so late in answering your kind letter. As you can imagine, the opening of the exhibition, the lecture I had to give at the colloquium, and the organization of the whole affair, all took my time so completely that I had to postpone all my correspondence. And even when all this was over, I had no breathing spell because I had to prepare my lecture for the Dumbarton Oaks Symposium at the end of this week. I was very sorry, of course, that Lola and you were not able to come to the opening. But I do hope that you can make it to see the exhibition during May. Actually, the exhibition closes on May 20. So, any time you have during the month of May after I am back from Washington on Saturday, May 5, would be fine, and it may even have the advantage of my being free to show you the exhibition and pay more personal attention to both of you. I am also late in thanking you very warmly for kindly sending me your Festschrift, in which I read with great pleasure, although I have only begun it, and will have to wait to finish it until I have more free time. I am sorry that I can repay you only in a very small way. Within the next few days two reprints will be sent to you; both are connected with Sinai, one is another contribution to the problem of Crusader icons, and the other is a brief sketch of the illustrated manuscripts in the Sinai library resulting from a lecture which I gave at St. John's University in Minnesota last fall. I hope they will interest you. So, once more, my apologies and most cordial thanks, and I am looking forward to seeing both of you, as is Josepha. Yours as always, Kurt Weitzmann KW:lh |
