Show oz ONE OF THE SEVERAL PACK TRAIN TRIPS The day ocame when we were to go by pack train to Yellow Gat From the Willow Spriag Cemp it wasfifteen miles to our obJeotive overslow route walking all the way but not tedious for there was so much to sec that no moment was irksome It was February and the morningsbit nippy so muichthat the horses had the jitters whencold saddle blanket was fiung on them and mounting them the horse Would sometimes squat tail tight and get his feet all under him preparatory to buoking one horse 41d start unwinding and partly unseated its rider wrenohing his baok other riders would oftentimes walk their horses around fully saddled to get them used to it before mounting Packs were tied om- 0h so thatthe Diamond Hiteh simple fsn1t one ejaculates when seeing an expert packer throw it and pull the right end of the right rope But woe to the oity feller who attempts it The foreman inspects the procecdings Shapps proteot the packers legs from the sharp limbs he will have to push through-he is just buokling the belt behind him as the snap shot is taken Digital image 2003 Beckwith Family Al rights reserved |
