Show 2 The storn that was threatening started in withslight drizzle split our party and two were directed to explorenearby oanyon for Indisn things and the two others were to ride over to large Balanoed Rook at the base of the Eayptian Faced Rook and there all four were again meet and under that proteotion have lunoh The two who went to the Took shelter sought the side away from the rain gently ariven byslight breeze and had unrolled the sandwiches awaiting the Teturn of the two others when up they came Pete the Mexican miling genially as was his wont when he found something and handed over to the surprised bossbig double handful of pottery sherds He ond Jack had olimbed through the Saddle and wers sitting away from the rain when Petesharp eye notedsomething in tho soil at his feet out in the Tain he went dug With his toe and loosencdsherd Despite the Tain he soon gathered some very nice speoimens of two kinds of anotent Indien pottery-one Qull gray and black somewhat thiok withfragment of an excellent design on it the otherbuff colored corrugated piece fromlarge shallow vessel the corrugations of whioh had boen further decorated by pressing 1neach mgle the blunt end ofporous reed paugumpe Ute whioh left the imprint of the reed in the olay This was then baked nd today the imprints show in reverse the tiny minute holes of the cane reed So the cold biting drizzly day was made sunshiny by this find Tae picces were disoussed problems raised and answored and 1t brought into mind that maybe the family of the boy mummy found in this wash two miles from there may have farmedsmall paten of squash or corn on the creek bottoms Within hailing dis tance of where we sat liage 2003 Beckwith Family Al rights reserved |
