I want to say a few words to go right along with it to Washington, and I want them to hear it. I have been hare now more than one month. In all of that time I have not heard of an Indian being drunk nor'having any whiskey. All the Indian trad9ra and the whita peopla I hav9 talked with, say that the Ute Indians are vary good to pay their dabt3. Jhan they oome together to oounoil with ma, they talk in a good.huraor. Th9y do not try to quarrel with me. I believe that these Indians tell the truth. These are the things that the Commissioner will be glad to hear, and in saying them here I am saying them to tha Commissioner and to these peopla at the same time. : y.;, There ia one thing, though, that I would like to see them doing mora than they are doing. More of their young men should be farming and working their lands than what has been done in the past. If the young men want to work, the old men who oan not work, should enoourage them by good words. Sinoe the time the Indians ware given their allotments, they oome under the White man's |
